The Piyak is taking shape

Alright here are four pictures of my progress on the piyak. I am beginning see at least something that looks like a boat. I think I need a name for her. I am open to suggestions as to a name.

I am using zip ties and washers to put her together.I am doing that to give me the proper joint spacing when I apply the epoxy mixture. Next comes putting the fiber glass on. I have never done that before, so we will see what happens.

The Piyak adventure begins!

Well, I have taken the plunge. I have my plans. I went to Lowes and bought 3 pieces of 1/4 Luan plywood. I have gotten my fiberglass. I have already started making a pile of sawdust and scraps. I will keep you posted as work progresses. Naturally, since I have plans, I do not plan to stick to them. There are some things I want do different, of my mine goal is to see it float down the bayou. Who knows maybe I will come face to face with a gator, and see who backs down first. Ha!

Spring is here and it is time for......?

I have some projects that I have been putting off that I am now going to start on. First, I have hauled in 5 more yards of dirt for the backyard. I was able to fill in most of the low spots. The time it rains I'll see what I missed and what I need to do next. Second, my boat project: I have ordered plans and they are here. (Not that I will follow them, but they might proved helpful.) Remember, Noah built the ark, and he was an amateur. I, do not consider myself an amateur, more of the novice who is maybe just a little bit too bold. Anyway, the fiberglass is ordered, and I am going to Lowes to pick up plywood this week end. Third, tomato plants need to planted, but they are at the bottom of my list. I will do them in between piryak building and dirt hauling. Even the bird in the picture is looking at me a little weird!

Easter, Rainy and Cold

It's Easter Week End, and as you can see from the pictures of my backyard, it has rained. My rain gauge goes up to 6 inches. We had 5 &1/2 inches last night. Needless to say, when I got up this morning for the sunrise service, it was not happening. It was cold and rainy. The temp was around 40 with the wind blowing about 30 miles per hour. We met inside our fellowship hall.

Ok , now that Easter is over, I can get back to doing some more regular posting on my blog. Here is a picture of my crew right after our last Easter performance. It all went well. We had 3 nights of standing room only. It was fun, but also a lot of work. But I have good people, with a lot on the ball, and that makes all the difference in the world.
Personal stuff: Becky has started her new job at the pharmacy. She seems to really like it. Abby and Bethany are doing what they do and I am getting but not wiser. The kayak / pirogue project is now about set to take off. I will post pictures as I go along.

Thought for the Day

If God had a refrigerator, your picture would be on it.
If He had a wallet, your photo would be in it.
He sends you flowers every spring.
He sends you a sunrise every morning Face it, friend - He is crazy about
you!

God didn't promise days without pain, laughter without sorrow, sun without
rain, but He did promise strength for the day, comfort for the tears, and
light for the way. If God brings you to it, He will bring you through it.

Don't Fence Me in

Well, because I got my daughters puppies now I have to fix the fence.
13 post holes later i am now on the way. 13 holes 3 feet deep, in this black gumbo soil is not what I call fun. It's either too wet and and wants to stick to everything, or to dry, and then it takes a stick of dynamite to dig a hole in it. The post are all in and now I can put the runners on and attach my slats.
After this project I can then turn my attention to my boat project, my pikay as I call it. I 'v e got the plans , now all I have to do is get the supplies and get after it.

Just Driftin' Along

Well, not much major happening here, just kind of drifting along.
I had 5 yards of dirt dumped in my drive way, so I could fill in some low spots in the backyard. I don't know how many wheel barrel loads it was, but it was enough. My back and shoulders are sore.

I've got a section fence I need to replace. I measured the section and figured out how much material I will need. I haven't priced it yet. But, I know it will more that I want to pay. The only thing bad about this project, is digging those post holes in this black gumbo soil. My shoulders hurt just thinking about it.

Now these projects involve being outside. It's been pretty nice, with the temps in the 60's and low 70's during the day. I really need to check the planting guides and see when I can plant some tomatoes and such. If this keeps up,I will have to mow the stupid grass. I would pay good money, if someone would develop a hybrid grass that only grows one inch per month, after it is established.

The boat building project is getting closer. I have the plans and have figured out the cost, now it is just getting these other projects done so I start can start on it. Well, I got to run.
